Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (abridged): Reading Comprehension for Class 7

In a small town, two brothers lived—Ali Baba, a poor woodcutter, and Kasim, a greedy merchant. One day, while cutting wood, Ali Baba heard horsemen approaching. He hid behind a tree and saw forty thieves stop before a large rock. Their leader shouted, “Open Sesame!” The rock opened into a secret cave filled with gold and jewels. After they left, Ali Baba repeated the magic words and entered. Amazed, he took a few bags of gold home for his family. When Kasim learned of the secret, he went to the cave but forgot the words to exit. The thieves found him there and killed him. They later discovered Ali Baba knew their secret and plotted to harm him. A clever servant girl named Morgiana saved him by pouring boiling oil on the thieves hiding in jars. Ali Baba thanked her and rewarded her loyalty. He kept the treasure safe and used it wisely to help others. The story teaches that greed leads to destruction, but honesty and courage bring peace.
