My Best Friend: Reading Comprehension for Class 6

Rahul and Arjun had been best friends since Class 1. They studied together, played cricket after school, and shared lunch every day. Rahul was quiet and thoughtful, while Arjun was talkative and cheerful. Their friendship balanced these differences perfectly. One afternoon, while practising for the inter-house quiz, Rahul forgot his notebook at home. Without hesitation, Arjun shared his notes and stayed back after class to help him revise. The next day, Rahul answered a tough question correctly because of Arjun’s help, and their team won the quiz. After school, they celebrated with ice cream at the canteen. When Rahul scored higher in exams, he happily shared his tips with Arjun instead of boasting. During a football match, Arjun slipped on the wet field and hurt his knee. Rahul immediately called the sports teacher and stayed beside him until help arrived. Both boys believed that friendship meant standing by each other in good and bad times. On Friendship Day, they exchanged handmade cards and bracelets that said “True friends lift each other up.” Their teacher praised them for being an example of teamwork and kindness. That evening, they played cricket in the park, laughing at their silly jokes and talking about their future dreams. Rahul felt lucky to have Arjun as his best friend—someone who understood him even without words—and promised himself that no matter where life took them, they would always stay connected. True friendship, he realised, was not about being the same but about accepting each other’s differences with trust and respect.
