Fix It Like a Pro: Editing and Omitting Errors for Class 6

This Grade 6 worksheet sharpens grammar and proofreading skills by teaching students how to identify and correct common writing mistakes. With paragraph-based activities focused on spelling, punctuation, verb forms, and extra words, learners build accuracy and confidence in their written expression.

Why Editing and Omitting Errors Matter in Grammar?

Editing is a crucial step in strong writing. For Grade 6 learners, this topic is important because:

    1. It trains them to spot spelling, verb, and punctuation errors.

    2. It teaches when to remove or fix confusing extra words.

    3. It strengthens clarity, fluency, and precision in writing.

    4. It prepares students for proofreading and formal writing tasks.

    What’s Inside This Worksheet?

This worksheet includes five skill-building tasks based on error identification and correction:

🧠 Exercise 1 – Spot and Label the Errors

    Students read short paragraphs and:

    a) Count the number of errors

    b) Label the type: spelling, verb form, punctuation, or extra/missing words

Example: “Yesterday we goes to the zoo…” → goes → verb form

📋 Exercise 2 – Rewrite with All Corrections

Students rewrite two short paragraphs after correcting spelling, punctuation, and verb form errors (4–5 per paragraph) .

    ✏️ Exercise 3 – Targeted Correction

Each mini-paragraph is edited for one error type only:

    - Sentence 1 focuses on punctuation

    - Sentence 2 on verb forms

    - Sentence 3 on spelling

    📝 Exercise 4 – Full Paragraph Editing

Students rewrite a longer paragraph with mixed errors (spelling, punctuation, verb forms, and unnecessary words) for full revision practice. The paragraph covers a Sunday picnic scene and includes more than 10 corrections to apply .

✅ Answer Key (For Parents & Educators)

    1. “goes” → verb form

“lions tigers and elephant” → punctuation (missing commas)

“leafs” → spelling (should be “leaves”)

“tree” → punctuation (missing article “a”)

    2. “walk” → verb form

    “buy” → verb form

“vegetables and milk” → punctuation (missing commas)

“their mother was not their” → homophone error (should be “there”)

    Exercise 2 – Sample Rewrites

    1. My cousin came to visit us yesterday. We went to the park and played football. It was very fun, but we forgot to take a water bottle.

    2. The birds were chirping loudly in the morning. I woke up early and saw the sunrise. It looked beautiful from my window.

    Exercise 3 – Targeted Edits

    1. Punctuation fix: We were late to class. The teacher was already inside. She said, “Take your seats quickly.”

    2. Verb fix: He woke up early and ate his breakfast. Then he walked to school with his friend.

    3. Spelling fix: The gardener plucked flowers from the bush and arranged them in a vase on the table.

Exercise 4 – Sample Edited Paragraph

Last Sunday, my family decided to go for a picnic at the nearby park. We packed sandwiches, fruits, and juices and left early in the morning. The weather was sunny and bright, which made everyone feel happy and cheerful.

When we reached the park, we saw many people already there, playing games, listening to music, and enjoying themselves. We chose a shady spot under a big tree and spread our blanket.

My sister and I played catch while my parents read books. After some time, we felt hungry, so we sat down to eat the lunch we had brought. The sandwiches were tasty, but the juice spilled a bit because someone forgot to close the lid properly.
