Connect the Dots: Mixed Conjunctions & Connectors Review for Class 5

This Grade 5 worksheet provides a comprehensive review of mixed conjunctions and connectors — including and, but, or, so, because, although, when, while, if, and however. Designed for 10–11 year olds, the worksheet uses relatable, real-life sentences to help students understand how each connector links ideas, shows contrast, gives reasons, or introduces conditions. Through five engaging activity types, learners build the confidence to use conjunctions and connectors accurately in both writing and spoken English.

Why Conjunctions & Connectors Matter in Grammar?

Conjunctions and connectors are the glue that holds sentences and ideas together. For Grade 5 learners, mastering mixed conjunctions is important because:

    1. They help join two ideas or clauses into one clear, complete sentence.
    2. Different connectors carry different meanings — contrast, cause, condition, or time.
    3. Using the wrong connector changes the logic and meaning of a sentence entirely.
    4. They are essential for writing well-structured paragraphs, stories, and essays.
    5. Strong connector usage makes both written and spoken communication more fluent and natural.

    What's Inside This Worksheet?

This worksheet includes five carefully designed activities that build fluency with mixed conjunctions and connectors:

Exercise 1 – Fill in the Blanks

Students choose one suitable connector from a word box (when, but, while, because, so, or, if, however, and, although) to complete ten sentences. Each sentence targets a specific connector function such as contrast, reason, condition, or simultaneous action. Example: "Rahul studied hard ________ passed." → and

Exercise 2 – True or False

Students read ten statements about how conjunctions and connectors work and decide whether each is true or false. This tests conceptual understanding of the grammar rules behind each connector. Example: "However shows addition of ideas." → False

Exercise 3 – Multiple Choice Questions

Students select the correct connector from three options to complete ten sentences. Questions cover all key conjunctions across a range of real-life contexts and sentence types. Example: "________ it was dark we found our way." → Although

    Exercise 4 – Sentence Rewriting

Students identify the incorrectly used connector in each sentence and replace it with the correct one from the word box. This sharpens their ability to spot conjunction errors and apply grammar rules accurately. Example: "Rahul or Pooja are friends." → Rahul and Pooja are friends.

    Exercise 5 – Paragraph Writing

Students write a paragraph about their daily routine using different types of connectors. This open-ended creative task encourages students to apply their learning independently in a meaningful, personal context.

Exercise 5 – Paragraph Writing (Sample Answer)

Every morning, I wake up at 6 AM and brush my teeth. Although I feel sleepy,
I get ready quickly because school starts at 8 AM. While my mother prepares
breakfast, I pack my school bag. I eat my breakfast fast so that I do not miss
the school bus. When I reach school, I meet my friends and we talk for a while.
During class, I pay attention because I want to do well in my exams. However,
sometimes it is hard to focus when I am tired. After school, I come home and
rest for a bit. If I finish my homework early, I go out to play. I enjoy cycling or
playing cricket with my friends. At night, I read a book or watch a little TV
before going to bed. I follow this routine every day so that I stay healthy,
    happy, and ready to learn!
